Before public office, Dr Matiang'i was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi and worked on governance and development programmes across the region. He came into government as a teacher and he governed like one: clear rules, high standards and no shortcuts.

In Cabinet he led three of the toughest ministries in the country. At ICT he drove the switch to digital television and pushed government services online. At Education he cleaned up national examinations and restored trust in the results. At Interior he took charge of national security and the coordination of government in every county.

Today he is back on the ground, meeting young people, traders and riders in every corner of Kenya. Vijana na F.O.M is how the youth stand with him, organise for him and make sure the next chapter is written with us, not for us.
